Engineering Sampler

Curious about how computers work, writing code, or considering a future in cybersecurity, networking, or software development? In the Engineering Sampler program, students will explore four key engineering fields, learn fundamental principles and gain an understanding of the design process. 


Program hours: 100h

Entry requirements: For high school students in grades 10 and 11

Delivery method: Hybrid

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  1. Compare and contrast different engineering disciplines like mechanical, civil, electrical, and water technology.
  2. Identify the skills and qualities needed for a successful career in engineering.
  3. Describe the role of engineering in society, including its impact on people's lives, the environment, and the economy.
  4. Apply engineering problem solving skills to analyze and address unique challenges, developing creative and effective solutions .
  5. Design and build basic engineering prototypes utilizing various tools and techniques to solve problems critically and creatively.

Health Care Sampler

This sampler program will provide students an opportunity to explore a variety of high demand health care careers, sample job tasks and identify educational requirements for entry into the healthcare profession. Explore industries from health office administration, dental health, pharmacy, nursing, social work and counselling, and allied health. 


Program hours: 100h

Entry requirements: For high school students in grades 11 and 12

Delivery method: Hybrid

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  1. Discuss the value of the 鈥淐are Economy鈥 and health care work to individuals and society.
  2. Explain the roles and responsibilities of selected health care careers as they relate to client, resident and patient health care needs.
  3. Identify key skills and attributes required to develop a successful health care career.
  4. Demonstrate basic health care skills and professional practice principles in simulated environments.
  5. Reflect on health care career pathways as they relate to personal passion and purpose.
  6. Describe labour market trends and economic variables when considering health careers. 

Leadership in Action Sampler

This Sampler program empowers high school students by providing them tools to become confident, effective leaders. Participants will learn leadership fundamentals, conflict resolution skills, communication strategies, and teamwork dynamics.  


Program hours: Depending on school district

Entry requirements: For high school students in grades 9-12 

Delivery method: Hybrid

Upon successful completion of the program, learners will be able to: 

  1. Describe key leadership qualities to model effective leadership practices.
  2. Explain different communication and collaboration skills and apply effective verbal and non-verbal communication in both individual and group settings.
  3. Practice goal setting for personal growth by setting SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) goals.
  4. Create hands-on activities and put their leadership skills into practice by leading youth games/activities.
  5. Reflect on conflict resolution strategies and how to deescalate a situation. 

Technology Sampler

The Technology Sampler Program introduces learners to the world of information technology and computer science. With conceptual learning and hands-on activities, learners will explore and gain foundational skills in two key areas 鈥 IT Essentials and Introduction to Coding.

  1. Demonstrate foundational digital literacy and technical proficiency across key areas of information technology and computer science.
  2. Understand the interdisciplinary nature of technology, recognizing how hardware, software, networks, and cybersecurity intersect in modern digital environments.
  3. Apply hands-on learning and project-based experiences to foster confidence, curiosity, and competence in working with digital tools, programming languages, and IT systems.
  4. Describe educational and career pathways in technology-related fields, gaining awareness of industry demands, roles, and the skills needed to succeed in postsecondary programs or tech careers.
  5. Demonstrate responsible and ethical use of technology, including awareness of cybersecurity risks, data protection, and safe online behavior.
